The Fairness Doctrine

This just in: Obama STILL doesn't want to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine. As Fox put it: “The statement is the first definitive stance the administration has taken since an aide told an industry publication last summer that Obama opposes the doctrine -- a long-abolished policy that would require broadcasters to provide opposing viewpoints on controversial issues." In other words, this is the first time he's said it since the last time he said it.

Fox followed that story with this breaking news: " Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead."

Yeah, I haven't heard Pres. Obama say anything indicating he cares about this. Some on the right think it will be called something else...something to do with local programming. I do think there are some in Congress--Stabenow--who'd like to see it.

I'd actually (almost) like to see a try for a straightforward attempt to reinstate by presidential directive (my recollection is that RR removed it by same) just for the drama.

Schumer's also been making noises about it. It's a trial balloon. It's important that it be shot down.

If a genuine, straightforward attack, it would be a glorious battle whatever the outcome. If it's covert...

I just don't think President Obama wants to do anything on this.
