Thanks! It's today - the celebration has already started - getting my annual state vehicle inspection. Next on the list, to the range to practice for my carry permit. Dinner tonight with the parents who are house-sitting during our mystery trip. Presents after dinner....
Practice at 3, 7 and fifteen yards and remember, for qualification you just hit in the chest of those near human sized targets. When I first started practicing (using those little about one foot square targets) I thought I'd never be able to hit at 7 and 15 yards. 15 yards is a very long shot with a handgun despite television and the movies. Much easier with the big targets.
Also, practice some doing two and three shots in fairly quick succession, ie, with about a second or two between shots. That's how you'll do some of the shooting on the test.
Check with the range boss though to be sure that is not considered "rapid fire" which will likely get you tossed.
Back from the range. Shooting from 21 feet....50 rounds, all but 3 shots in the 5 or 4 point range. The 2 shot, then 3 shot quick succession shots were the most difficult and I'm sure I wasn't doing them quickly enough.
There were some Dallas PD guys there at the other end of the range and the range officer was getting on them for "double-tapping".

Always keep it pointed down range.
