Subhead: I'm guessing this is a reference to Blankley's Townhall piece about the deficit?
Deserves more than a hurried comment, but the thing I keep thinking about w/r/t the tizzy people are in about the increased spending is that at least some of it was going to be spent anyway; it's an unrecognized debt. I mean, take, for example, increased govt health care spending. That money was going to be spent anyway -- by insurance companies paying health claims collected via premiums. So it isn't as though a greater amount of GDP will be spent on healthcare -- just that the govt will cut a check for something an insurance company otherwise would have. (The debate about whether it's a good thing for govt to be doing that is a whole 'nother topic. I'm just saying that the "added" expense was already an expense, sort of the way people who rent have an unrecognized mortgage, since they have to pay to live somewhere next month and the month after that and the month after that.
Nope. I just found the magazine today. But, here's mine (I cheat a lot:
3 c cornbread mix 2 c milk 1/2 c oil 3 beaten eggs 1 large chopped onion 1/2 tsp garlic powder 4 slices crisp, crumbled bacon 3 tb sugar 1 c cream corn 1/2 c choped jalapenos (more ok) 1 1/2 c grated cheddar (I like sharp)
Recipe from Lone Star Legacy cookbook calls for pimientos but I usually omit. A dollop or two of sour cream can be yummy, too, if you decrease some of the other liquidy stuff.
Mix. Pour into 9 x 13 pan. Bake 30 to 40 mins until, well, done.
Yours looks better than the Saveur one. Bacon FTW. ("FTW" -- is that a known thing, or just known to Idoltards?)
I have kind of a thing about corn kernals in anything other than corn, though. Recently managed to eat salsa with corn in it, though, so maybe I'm getting over it.
I'm ashamed to admit I settle for Marie Callandar (sp) mix for cornbread.

Re: subhead:
I'm sure that is where I saw it. No, I don't think we're heading toward JC.
It just kinda summarizes my basic, my basic...mood isn't really the word...these days.
Really just wanted a cheap, easy way to put Livy into the mix. I'm keeping my eyes open for a (an?) Herodotus subhead.

You keep looking for your Herodotus quote. I'm sifting through classic Lambert. I'm liking this one: "I think someone put drugs in this weed."
Temp for your cornbread? 450?
Oops. 350.
