Gibson was serving up a softball so that she could correct the incorrect quote from the AP with her explanation (which I buy, btw) that she was saying, in Lincolnesque terms, that she hoped that our actions were in line with God's will.
Hot Air's "transcipt" isn't the way it went. Charlie showed the video of her, so her exact words preceded a question from Charlie as to whether we're fighting a holy war. And then there was that quote from her (in Hot Air's transcript) about Lincoln and not presuming to know the will of God.
I suspect editing. Maybe during the interview Charlie read the abbreviated/inaccurate quote. The whole thing is chopped to hell; jump cuts galore -- they didn't even try to make it look not editing.
But I think it comes across on TV as you would want it to. The show her video, so it's exactly her own words, and then she gets to give the Lincoln explanation.
And I hate this breaking up interviews to air over different programs. Who the hell wants to keep track of what shows/what days/what time. Much like what Fox did with Obama (a 30 minute interview spread over 4 days ) - at least the interview was always the 1st segment on O'Reilly's show.
I'm watching the clip on ABC News website and I swear it's different from what I just watched on TV. On TV, they showed the video of her in the church, but that's not in the clip on the website. Am I crazy? Did anyone else notice the TV version?
Just watch the clip on the website - that was NOT what was broadcast on tv. The web clip didn't have the clip from her speaking at the church, but it did have where she asked him if that was a dierct quote (which wasn't on the tv version). Very strange...
Was it just me, or was that the most hastily-edited, smash-cut, Max Headroom splice job ever to go on national television? One could be forgiven for concluding they bumped the rest of interview to the end of the broadcast because they were STILL EDITING.
(And as has been observed elsewhere, they seemed to have missed the lead-in on that YouTube church video. Oops).
ABC, take another 24 hours, and do a professional job. The nation can wait for you to get it right.
Charlie Gibson: “Senator Obama, you have referred in the past to ‘my Muslim faith.’ How strong is your Muslim faith?” Barack Obama: “You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote.” Charlie Gibson: “Exact words.”

He serves up a bad story so she can correct it?? Please. That's just nutty.
So why does she say that's not her quote? You're not making sense.

Nice editing job by ABC - looked like something a high schooler did.

Phew. Thought I'd lost my mind. Thanks for confirming.
