And even if they met earlier, there's no reason to think Obama would have appreciated Ayers past. I had never heard of the Weather Underground until that documentary came out a few years ago. It was all news to me at that point. I was just too young for it to have been something memorable.
But the real point is that Obama would have had no reason when he met him, or even after he learned of his past, to shun him, since Ayers was by that point living the life of a respectable contributing citizen. Ayers didn't pronounce his non-regret until 2001.; October 10, 2008 at 9:38:00 AM CDT
